My work is a creative application of an information technology.I am developing the GPS receiver as an innovative drawing tool for creating community-based art that I call “Satellite Graffiti”.It combines GPS technology, a Google Earth mash-up, video, audio, large-scale photographs, and other documentation in an installation that maps not only the terrain, but also the social and political ideals of our community.
In the sky above, 24 satellites are orbiting the earth. When I step outside and turn on my GPS, anywhere from 3 to 12 of these satellites point directly at me.As I begin to move, they engrave a line in cyberspace. My GPS receiver records the line. This virtual line is layered with a narrative line in the real world, comprised of my observations and chance encounters that have been recorded with photographs and video. This line can easily be superimposed on satellite photography, shared with others on the Internet, and viewed on Google Earth. (Click Here to Download Google Earth)
In 2007 while in Oxford England I did 3 question marks on fields around the town.
In my photography I am currently exploring a number of projects.
High Dynamic Range photos or HDR; A sort of hyper realism is created by combining different exposures of the same image into one image.
High/Low pass imagery; This combines two similar but not the same photo into one. One photo is treated with a high pass filter and the other is treated with a low pass filter. The result is a kind of optical illusion where you see one image from a distance and another when you get closer.
Portraits; I love taking pictures of beautiful women.
Tutorials; I am currently working on creating a DVD of photo related tutorials
For the last 6 years I have been creating a number of specialty cards for my wife's aunt. They range from general greeting, special occasion, and yearly Christmas cards.
General Greeting Cards
This card was created as a general greeting card. The words were created in a 3D modeling program and the background sky, Helen and the grass were collaged in Photoshop. I added lighting effects to the word Hello to show sunlight on the stones. I think the exclamation mark is a little magical.
